You search through dozens of shampoos trying to find one that actually appeals to you. Some promise miracles, some promise volume, some promise hydration, and after a while they all start sounding the same.
One thing I personally don’t like in shampoos is parabens, so I am always looking for alternatives that feel a little gentler on my hair.
Over the years I’ve tried quite a few different products, but none of them really worked my hair in the way I wanted them to. Some left it feeling dry, some made it greasy quickly, and others simply didn’t seem to do very much at all.
That was until I found The Body Shop Banana Shampoo.
Honestly? Oh my gosh. Truly divine.
The first thing you notice is the smell.
Yes, it smells of bananas, but not in an overpowering way that makes you feel as though you’ve been hit in the face with a fruit bowl. Equally, it isn’t so subtle that you can barely notice it. It sits nicely in the middle. Fresh, pleasant and slightly sweet without feeling artificial.
That’s a big positive from me.
Next up, it lathered really well into my hair. You don’t need a huge amount of product either. It spread easily, felt soothing while washing and left my hair feeling properly clean afterwards.
What impressed me most, however, was how my hair felt once it had dried.
My hair type is naturally quite dry, and after using this shampoo I noticed it felt softer, healthier and had a natural bounce to it. It looked fresher too. Sometimes shampoos can leave hair feeling stripped or heavy, but this seemed to strike a really nice balance.
Another thing I noticed was that my hair stayed grease-free for several days. That’s always a bonus because nobody wants to feel as though they need to wash their hair again the very next morning.
I’ve now been using this shampoo continually since I first bought it, and my opinion hasn’t changed. In fact, I probably like it even more now than when I first tried it.
As for the price, I paid around £10 for the bottle. While that’s more expensive than some supermarket shampoos, I personally think it’s worth it. A little goes a long way and the overall quality feels much higher than many cheaper alternatives.
Was there anything I didn’t like?
Honestly, no.
It’s rare that I find a product where I genuinely struggle to think of a negative, but this is one of those occasions. It smells lovely, works well on my dry hair, leaves it feeling fresh and helps keep grease at bay.
Would I buy it again?
Absolutely.
In fact, I would go as far as saying it has become a staple in my bathroom. If The Body Shop ever stopped making it, I’d probably be first in line writing a strongly worded letter.
For me, this shampoo is an easy recommendation.
